Homi playing Lacrosse

Trying Lacrosse for the First Time🥍💨

Imagine football, handball, and tennis combined into one; that’s pretty much lacrosse! It’s played on a field like a football pitch, but instead of kicking a ball, you use a long stick with a net at the end to throw and catch it.
The ball itself is made of super hard rubber, and trust me, getting hit by one is not pleasant @). Luckily, players wear heavy padding, almost like American football, so there’s nothing major to worry about. And yes, there’s a goalkeeper too… although none of the members recommended that I try being one!

So How Does It Work?

Players use the net at the top of the stick (called a crosse) to catch the ball and run with it. So it’s definitely not like football where you can’t use your hands – here, your hands are everything.
The version I played was a variation of traditional lacrosse called Box Lacrosse. Each team has six players: five runners and one goalie. It’s super-fast-paced, requires lots of stamina, and you need serious strength because you’re constantly fighting for possession.

The Team Atmosphere

The players and the coach were incredibly friendly. They made me feel like I was already part of the team from the moment I arrived. They were patient, supportive, and even willing to sprint 100 meters just to fetch the ball I completely overshot. Oops.

The club has both men’s and women’s teams, and they’re quite competitive. They play weekly league games against different universities. You can join, test your skills, and who knows – maybe you’ll earn MVP if you push hard enough!

I definitely tried my best… but let’s just say MVP was not happening for me this time.
Thanks for reading about my first lacrosse experience! It was intense, fun, and definitely a sport that surprised me. If you want something fast, physical, and exciting – you should give lacrosse a go!
