CCCU Men’s Cricket team showcased their exceptional talent and determination at the BUCS National Championships at the iconic Edgbaston Cricket Ground last week.
Their journey to Finals Day was nothing short of spectacular, having overcome 11 different opponents and topped their groups in both regional rounds. This stellar performance earned them a coveted spot at Finals Day, where they faced big Universities including University of Leicester, Imperial College London, and The University of Edinburgh.
The team dominated the Finals Group Day, securing victories against all three opponents. They comfortably defeated Edinburgh and Imperial and stood strong against a formidable challenge from Leicester. Progressing to the semi-finals, they faced last year’s runners-up, the University of Worcester.
Despite a worthy effort, Christ Church couldn’t exceed Worcester’s strong score. However, the squad showed their resilience, regrouping to claim victory in the 3rd/4th place playoff. This successfully secured a well-earned 3rd place finish, improving on their 4th place achievement in 2024.
CCCU Staff Member and Team Coach, Scott Dale, reflected on the team’s achievements, saying: “It was amazing to see our Men’s Cricket Club represent our University on a national stage. Overcoming universities far bigger than ours is always satisfying, and those involved should be very proud. The squad have worked extremely hard over the last two years, and this success is thoroughly deserved.”
A huge congratulations to the entire squad for their outstanding performance: Bradley Goldsack (captain), Ewan Hutchinson, Finley Mason-Myers, George Kidd, William Cook, Jujhar Singh, Harley Gilks, and Jacob Couzens.
Special mentions go to Finley Mason-Myers, who scored a total of 129 runs; Bradley Goldsack, who contributed 114 runs; and George Kidd, who impressed with 82 runs and 11 wickets.
Congratulations to the team for their dedication, skill, and remarkable success. You have made Christ Church #CCCUproud.
