Beginning my Personal Training journey: Session #1

ACTIVE FUN TIP: Ask an expert. Hire a Personal Trainer to design you an exercise programme.

What have I done?! I’ve volunteered to try Personal Training (PT) with Christ Church Sport. Each week I’ll be updating my Personal Training diary on the Move More Blog – expect: a snapshot of my highs and lows, candid details and sweaty photos!

I’ve teamed up with the fantastic Kerry Clare – gym supervisor and personal trainer extraordinaire – and started my personal training sessions this week.

Why? I have the persistent nagging feeling that I think a lot of people experience – the guilty gnawing feeling that I would love to be ‘fitter’.

Why not go it alone? Honestly? I think I’m very skilled in the art of procrastination. I’m good at finding excuses not to go to the gym or for a run. It could be the self righteous feeling that I deserve a lie in, or not being able to find my leggings – the leggings I NEED to be able to run…. You get the idea.

I’d love to have the support that I think personal training can offer.

What to expect at your first session? Kerry took me through a whole load of health and fitness questions! The first session of PT is assessment based – so we looked at where I am with my fitness now, my past and what I want to achieve in the future.

Kerry was great – she’s really friendly, easy to talk to and helped guide this slightly nervous newbie through the process. Instead of a medical assessment this felt like going for a coffee with a friend – albeit without coffee and where you just talk about yourself!

She’s going to set me up with a training programme, and at next week’s session the training truly begins!
