At this time of year we are all faced with deadlines or revision and it’s important to give your mind a break from studying. One way to do this is to try the Move More tip “use a printer/bin/toilet that’s further away”.
Initially I thought, how’s this going to work? There are bins and toilets everywhere, which one should I use? But each time I got up I would just pick a new one. I always tend to study at a computer in Laud, so I’d go to Invicta, Ramsey or Powell and just take various routes.
The great thing I found with this tip is that it gave me a reason to just clear my mind for a few minutes. I hate sitting in front of a computer for hours on end because the words blur into one. More often than not, whatever I’m writing just turns to rubbish after a while! But whenever I got up to find a bin, I would go for a quick walk and force myself to stop thinking about my assignment. Then when I got back I had brand new eyes to go at it with and I would be much more productive. I would also have been a bit more active in my day!
This tip is so easy to incorporate into day to day life. Even at home I would use the bin in the kitchen downstairs rather than in my room. As much as I battled with myself because I couldn’t be bothered, I would do it anyway. Then I felt better for having got my blood pumping (if only for a few mins)!
If you’re going to try this tip but it doesn’t really apply to your life, replace the destination. Maybe going to a touchdown further away? Or going to a water dispenser in another building? I’m definitely going to carry on doing this tip. It’s so easy and really helps because it’s like a little mini break with purpose!
