Understanding journal articles/h1>

How do I find journal articles?

There are different ways to find journal articles that are relevant for your research and assignments:

  1. Use LibrarySearch – use the main search box in LibrarySearch to search for journal articles on a topic. This will search at article-level inside the journals on all subjects that the library subscribes to.
  1. Use online databases – within LibrarySearch there is a link to “Find Databases A-Z” which gives you access to specific collections of journals and research that you can search inside for journal articles. You can find suggested relevant databases for your subject using the Library subject guides.
  1. Search inside journals – use the options in the main menu of LibrarySearch to “Find ejournals by title”, or to “Browse e-journals by subject”. You can then go into individual journals and browse through the articles, or search for articles just inside that journal.
  1. Search Google Scholar – you may not always be able to read whole journal articles that you find references to, check in LibrarySearch if CCCU library has a subscription. If not, then you may be able to request the article using the library’s Document Delivery service.

Read a journal article critically and consider what type of article it is, what evidence is used, what conclusions are drawn and how this relates to other reading and your own experiences.

Always reference a journal article fully and correctly in assignments using your programme’s approved reference style.
