Planning an assignment/h1>

Why is planning important?

The tip of the iceberg is what we see, the final piece of writing. What we don’t see, which is much deeper, is what we can find underneath the water, the process.

We are often so fixated with the final product that we jump in and start writing, neglecting some of the crucial steps of the writing process.

The process of writing often involves these kinds activities:

  • Researching
  • Reading
  • Making notes
  • Analysing
  • Critiquing
  • Comparing
  • Contrasting
  • Forming ideas
  • Developing an argument
  • Drafting
  • Editing and proofreading

This clearly highlights that writing is a non-linear process, and that lots happens before we actually sit down and write.
