Most want to give something back to their community, doing something rewarding. Some want to develop skills and experience that can help them in their career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-977\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/cccuconnect\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/710\/2022\/01\/Resolutions-4.png 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not have to be a parent to become a governor and people from all different backgrounds are encouraged to apply to increase the diversity of school governing boards and to raise school standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, Canterbury Christ Church University signed a partnership with the charity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.educationandemployers.org\/about-the-charity\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Education and Employers<\/a> to advocate the role of school governor through their Inspiring Governance programme. Launched in 2016, the programme is funded by the Department for Education and offers a free matching service connecting highly skilled volunteers with state schools across England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Free webinar for prospective school governors or trustees-<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think school governance is for you, sign up via our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inspiringgovernance.org\/canterbury-christ-church-university\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">partner page<\/a> on the Inspiring Governance website.
