The Department of Enterprise and Engagement at Canterbury Christ Church University<\/a> were key partners of the Energy, Tech and Sustainability Expo at Discovery Park<\/a> held on March 23rd<\/sup>. Sponsored by Cummins<\/a>, Barclays Eagle Labs<\/a> and Veolia<\/a>, the event was a great success with over 200 businesses attending, highlighting opportunities and the impact we can make when collaborating and joining forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Expo really highlighted that each organisation\u2019s journey to reduce their emission profile is unique, dependent on the challenges they face whether that be finance, skills or technology. Universities are in a privileged position to mobilise access to knowledge and resources to help organisations overcome these barriers and achieve a more sustainable business model. Through research and innovation, continuing professional development (CPD) and access to specialist facilities and technology, there are numerous opportunities for industry and academia to collaborate and work in partnership to create a greener and more sustainable future.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keynote Speaker Troy Barratt, Managing Director, BAMUK Group Ltd<\/a> gave an inspiring talk on the sustainability journey to net zero. Troy spoke to the attendees about the UK being a world leader in traditional power generation and how the UK now needs to be a world leader in new energy generation by developing our own Green Industrial Policy that puts wind in the sails of our expertise in the energy generation and advanced manufacturing, including wind farms, to batteries, to small modular reactors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day there were four panellist sessions with lots of great discussions and debates on a wide variety of topics ranging from what skills we need to develop, to how fast innovation, technology and systems can be created to reach this goal. The event was also a great opportunity to network with others and discuss how we can collaborate and reach net zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
