From conflict to clarity: the CCCU Mediation Clinic

Mediation is a voluntary and empowering process where parties to a dispute can resolve their differences in a structured, yet informal setting, with the guidance of an impartial mediator who does not take sides. The whole process is completely confidential and is much quicker and cheaper than going to court.

At CCCU, we have our own Mediation Clinic that is based at our Canterbury campus. It offers a confidential and impartial service aiming to deliver quality, professional dispute resolution to support local needs. The provision covers commercial and workplace disputes and can help clients avoid costly legal action.

If you are experiencing tension or issues with any of the following, the University’s Mediation Clinic may be able to help:

  • In the workplace – with colleagues, your employer or a business partner
  • With a supplier, customer or contractor
  • With a landlord, tenant or neighbour.

Benefits of Mediation:

  • Less costly than litigation
  • Quicker than litigation
  • More informal
  • No win-lose
  • Helps maintain relationships
  • Solutions found can be much more creative compared to the restrictive remedies available through court
  • Outcomes agreed between parties through a party-led process.

CCCU’s Mediation Clinic first launched in 2007 and has helped more than 160 people (including businesses) across Kent and Medway.

If you think mediation might help you, simply email a brief description of your dispute to mediationclinic@canterbury.ac.uk and the team will be in touch.
