John, our Careers Advisor, has put together his top 15 tips for you to test your CV against, so dig it out, and see how you can make some more edits to polish it up!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li><strong>TARGET each CV <\/strong>\u2013 to the specific employer\/profession\/type of work (save each version)<\/li><li>Remove \u2018Curriculum Vitae\u2019 as your CV title \u2013 your name as the heading is fine<\/li><li><strong>First impressions count! <\/strong>\u2013 use a logical structure, same terminology as the recruiter<\/li><li>Keep to a maximum of 1 side (part-time work), 2 sides (graduate\/full-time positions), 2+ sides for academic\/research positions (depending on the recruiter)<\/li><li>Choose an attractive\/professional\/easy to read font! Say NO to \u2018Comic Sans\u2019 and YES to \u2018Arial\u2019, \u2018Verdana\u2019 or \u2018Helvetica\u2019!<\/li><li>Read the job advert\/description, then read it again to pick up any key information you may have missed<\/li><li>Use the same terminology\/key words as the recruiter uses in their job advert\/description<\/li><li>Use space effectively \u2013 devote more space to your unique selling points (USPs) \u2013 most relevant\/targeted information on page 1 of your CV. Match your skills and experience to the recruiter\u2019s needs.<\/li><li>Add an \u2018Interests and Activities\u2019 section \u2013 anything you enjoy doing in your spare time and any positions of responsibility you hold to reinforce your skills\/experience already stated.<\/li><li>Do not lie. This could prove embarrassing for you at interview and a serious lie could cost you the job, career, and even potential legal action against you.<\/li><li>No spelling or grammar mistakes.
