New Workshop Schedule! January – March 2021

All our workshops are online, and free, and just for you as CCCU students and recent Alumni (within 3 years of graduation). Do come and join us as we journey through different areas of employability, and keep an eye on our social media, as there’ll be more blogs, videos, and other ways to connect with us. We look forward to coming to a screen near you!

2021: Your Year Ahead – Wednesday 13th January, 1-2pm
2020 was hard for some, and revolutionary for others. However it looked for you, come and think about what the year ahead could bring…
The start of a new year brings a great time to reflect, and to look ahead. What have you been able to do the last year that’s helped you towards your future career that you may not have even recognised? What steps can you take this year to boost your skills? What are your long term career goals, and how can you make them happen? Join us in this discussion-based interactive workshop to refocus your mind for the year to come, and find your own steps to put in place to make this year work for you.

Unitemps Working Seminar – Wednesday 20th January, 12:30 – 2pm
Come and meet the Unitemps team! They will show you where and how to register for a Unitemps account and what work opportunities they can offer. They will help you to identify what a ‘good’ CV looks like and how this will make a difference when applying for jobs. This workshop will be interactive so the aim is that you come away with a clear understanding on how to present your skills and knowledge and enhance those employability traits needed to get the job you want!

Beginning Your Business – Thursday 21st January, 1-2pm
The wonderful Rowan from the Kent Foundation is ready to talk to you. If you’re thinking of stepping out with big ideas you want to explore, or already have a formed business idea you’re wanting to start up, this online workshop is a must. The Kent Foundation is a place for ambitious young business owners of Kent to receive business mentoring support, develop their business ideas and get the support to turn them into a reality and boost the economy of Kent through business creation, business start-up and business growth. Come and meet Rowan virtually, and hear more about what you can do to turn your ideas into a successful business!

Professionalism in the Online Workplace & Virtual Branding – Wednesday 27th January, 1-2pm
This session is facilitated by Gist. They say: We have to address the elephant in the room! 2020 was a dynamic year for all of us, the biggest plot twist any of us have ever been through. We were forced to grow, reflect and move our lives ONLINE! It’s a change for all of us and this session facilitated by Gist aims to help you put your best self forward even in a virtual world.

Opportunities Workshop and Q&A with Kent Police – Wednesday 3rd February, 12-1:30pm
There are a whole range of roles available in Kent Police, and they’re hiring now. Come to find out more about all the different roles available, and ask your questions about what it’s like being a police officer, or working in the staff roles.

Your Personality, Your Career – Tuesday 16th February, 1-2pm
This fully interactive and fun workshop is designed to help you identify your True Colors™ personality type and enable you to understand how to use this knowledge in the world of work. True Colors™ helps people recognize their personality and temperament types. It evolves around four colours: Green, Orange, Blue and Gold. Each of us are a blend or rainbow, usually with one predominant colour. Identifying your colour preferences can help us in many areas of your life, career and job search.

Teach First: Meet the Employer – Wednesday 17th February, 12-1pm
From Kate, the facilitator: ‘The current global crisis has proven what many have known all along: teaching is a vital profession for the future of our country. A child’s future should be decided by their potential, not their postcode. Help us break the cycle of inequality, by becoming an inspirational leader and teacher in schools that need your skills the most. Join Kate to learn about the graduate scheme where you will have access to expert support over our (Teach First) two year programme and receive a fully funded PGDE. Not graduating in 2021? Don’t worry – we also have undergraduate opportunities for you to explore the profession and enhance your CV.’

Starting Your Career (Banking) – Tuesday 2nd March, 1-2pm
Facilitated by HSBC, they say: Anxious and excited are just some of the emotions you’ll be feeling when entering the workplace for the first time. This presentation highlights the resources available to you so that you get off to a great start with your new career. Covering off the basics such as understanding your payslip and budgeting, right the way through to securing the future that you want. We work to live, not live to work and it’s important you plan to achieve your hopes, dreams and ambitions.
Financial Health Check Available on Request: You can also book an appointment with an experienced personal banker to go through a quick and easy 30 minute Financial Health Check, allowing you to ask any financial questions you may have. This complimentary service is available regardless of where you bank personally. To book this, email health-check@hsbc.com directly.

CCUSA: Working a Summer Camp – Wednesday 3rd March, 1-2pm
Experience a North American tradition by working at summer camp. You’ll ride in a Yellow School Bus! You’ll cook s’mores on a campfire! You’ll spend nights under the stars and days by the lake! Most importantly, you’ll have the best summer of your life! There’s a 20 minute presentation hosted by a CCUSA staff member who has worked at camp for 4 summers, then Q&A session. They are looking for people who want to work with children, teaching or assisting your favourite activities. There’s something for everyone at camp, whether you’re into sports, performing arts, adventure sports, water sports, arts & crafts, gymnastics, horse riding, fitness, circus or digital media.

Interview Preparation – Thursday 11th March, 12-1pm
Our Careers Advisor, John, will be facilitating this session. He will be showing you the different types of interviews that recruiters use and teaching some top tips on how to prepare for your interview. Explore the different types of questions you are likely to be asked at interview and how best to formulate your responses to these questions.

Microsoft Specialist Workshops – (a range of dates and times)
These are run in partnership with our IT training team, and are available in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. The workshops are great training to understand the software better, but also prepares you to take an exam if you choose to, that you can then put on your CV. If you pass 3 of the exams, you can call yourself a Microsoft Specialist Associate!
We’re now also giving you the chance to be an EXPERT. Once you’ve completed 3 exams above, and you’re a Specialist Associate, you’re welcome to book on to our two new Expert sessions – Word and Excel, and take your knowledge and skills to the next level!
