class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>VIEW FROM HER WINDOW<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>AFTER LOUISE BEER\u2019S RESPONSE TO GLACIERS AND WATER:<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The North Sea in Margate&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flows in and out of focus,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A composite of time and tide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not images of glaciers crisp and cold&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And high and wide,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stories these ancient glaciers told,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a less- cold Sea from her window&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She sought to show in pixels picturing&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swelling, sifting, shifting&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spring tides and Neaps,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sweeps of waves, both shallow and deep&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With seaweed used as silver gelatine&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No toxic chemicals, poisoning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, here in this swirl of water&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As in the glaciers of old,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With their erratic mica gold,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hails this self &#8211; same water,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Washing through her blood.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Fragile eco-systems fail and erode,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Man, made from water, strode&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through both the warm and cold,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From warming glacial Pole to sun-soaked Pole,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now with its swirling waters, covering the whole.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Wendy Blanchet<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Ghaib<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I thought -the name of a tribe-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Who remain unseen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Into the silence&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&#8211; the icy silence &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I hear a glacier crack.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p &nbsp;Ungive iset penitent,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;rone and aquabob&nbsp; ungive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; ickle, shockle, shuckle glocken,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; tankle, windle, snipe unheeve&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; bleb, bleb, bleb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Julie Frith<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Untitled<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walking, on talking mountain, is never easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You want a cosmic egg, to hatch, and tell you lies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what, my darling child, would that achieve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For those who run, run, run, away, must have troubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No guarantee of safe passage, long life, eternal bliss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Havens are temporal things, in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the end, perhaps, there is no safe haven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speech so long denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And will you lie now, and say you are sorry, that you ran?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For you ran to make a track, that speaks of this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like an osprey in flight,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the Himalayan Passu glacier<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">soars silently on the tips of the dark umber mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The osprey surveys the reddish-brown &#8216;Fairy Meadows&#8217;,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and the treacherous, burnt umber, silken slopes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">leading to the broken, zigzag frazil-stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the valley of Ghulkin,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">busy curlews and red-billed choughs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">catch the osprey out of the corner of their eyes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and see their own reflections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(Frazil means loose, needle-like ice crystals that form into churning slush in turbulent, super-cooled water.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Elizabeth Mortimer<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"
