{"id":2078,"date":"2024-02-02T13:12:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T13:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/artsandculture\/?p=2078"},"modified":"2024-02-12T16:07:53","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T16:07:53","slug":"poems-inspired-by-glacial-movements-and-the-ghaib","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.canterbury.ac.uk\/artsandculture\/poems-inspired-by-glacial-movements-and-the-ghaib\/","title":{"rendered":"Poems inspired by Glacial Movements and the Ghaib"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>from <strong>Wise Words for the Earth <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VIEW FROM HER WINDOW<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>AFTER LOUISE BEER\u2019S RESPONSE TO GLACIERS AND WATER:<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North Sea in Margate&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flows in and out of focus,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A composite of time and tide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not images of glaciers crisp and cold&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And high and wide,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stories these ancient glaciers told,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a less- cold Sea from her window&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She sought to show in pixels picturing&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swelling, sifting, shifting&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spring tides and Neaps,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sweeps of waves, both shallow and deep&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With seaweed used as silver gelatine&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No toxic chemicals, poisoning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, here in this swirl of water&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As in the glaciers of old,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With their erratic mica gold,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hails this self &#8211; same water,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washing through her blood.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Fragile eco-systems fail and erode,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Man, made from water, strode&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through both the warm and cold,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From warming glacial Pole to sun-soaked Pole,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now with its swirling waters, covering the whole.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Wendy Blanchet<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Ghaib<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;I thought -the name of a tribe-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Who remain unseen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Into the silence&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; ickle, shockle, shuckle glocken,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; tankle, windle, snipe unheeve&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;
