On 7th March 2017, Broadstairs students joined students from the Canterbury Campus at the annual FLUX Sustainable Business Challenge, held at Discovery Park, Sandwich.

This exciting event offered an opportunity to devise ideas for a sustainable business; one that could help tackle the social problem of homelessness across Kent. Students were supported by business mentors experienced in areas such as marketing, people, sustainability and finance.

Students demonstrated creative thinking and innovation, and were commended for their professional approach. 2 of the 3 “best overall idea” awards went to teams of students taking either “Corporate Sustainability” or “Business in Society” modules at Broadstairs, following extensive deliberation by the judges. Year 3 student Isaiah Mutabaruka was awarded a certificate for best individual contribution for the 2nd year running!

Students were very positive about the event:

“I enjoyed learning about running a business sustainably. I enjoyed working in a team to complete different challenges.”

“It was a very good learning opportunity and contributed greatly to my degree.”

“The day seemed to fly by and it was enjoyable… You feel like you’re in a business, and the support you receive from the experts is so useful! You’ll really enjoy it, for how hands on it is and relevant to your future.
